| i was putting things in the van,and in and out of the house,i was in the greenhouse when margarita was screaming at me,THE VANS ON FIRE,i ran in there was smoke everywhere,we had put a teatowel over the cooker and closed the lid{we do this all the time when travelling to stop any rattling}and i must have turned the electric hob on by accident by rubbing past it,as simple as that. the result was an exploding glass cooker,it was in hundreds of pieces, but lucky enough no smoke damage,{i was very quick opening all the windows/cab doors} new glass cover ordered, arriving tomorrow. | |

| What a nightmare Frank, you would think they would have thought about safeguarding this from happening at the factory. We also put a teatowel in ors while travelling but we only have gas hob hope it doesn't need much to sort | |

| i think there is a safeguard on it,but with the tea towel on, the lid was not completely down so the safeguard didnt kick in. | |

| HIa
Good to know you are both ok.
When I bought my van by private sale the lady made it plane she did not like the rattles and tea towels were in the oven to stop the rack. But she forgot to tell me she had stuffed kitchen roll in the vents of the gas fire. So when we switched it on to see if it worked it wasn't long before the smoke began to billow out

| Did exactly the same at Scout hut in Southport Frank, luckily caught it in time, the problem is the electric hob knob does not have a push and turn safety feature like the gas knobs. When I contacted Swift they said I should isolate the electric ring after each operation, problem was it was in the bottom drawer of the oven at the back, requiring anyone to get down on the knees and grovel around to do this. | |

| Been there/done that too Frank.... except mine was my own fault. I hadn't turned the gas off properly and left it on low. I then placed the tea towel over the gas ready for 'the off' and it caught within seconds..When Wurly heard/saw what I'd done he used your favourite phrase.... Second word was '.head'!! Glad all ok.... So easily done though.. | |

| Good to hear the potential fire was found in time.
Similar thing happened to me when I was getting van ready for the off. Although I didn't have tea towel under the cooker top. I had caught the electric knob and turned the ring on. Could smell the hot cooker top and saw the ring glowing.
First thing I do now, when the handbrake is applied is lift the cooker top and don't put it down until ready to drive away.
