Hi everyone,
Registered just now and thought I would introduce myself.
Sixty seven year old newbie to motor homes, just a few months with no previous experience.  Retired workshop manager living in S. Wales who has kept many dogs over half a century, mostly English Springer Spaniels, keen trainer of dogs for work.
Regards
Cal

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody, I will endeavor to make a worthwhile contribution to the fora hopefully with some humour where appropriate.  I will browse around the site and get the feel of things before making any posts, I have already tried to answer a PM without success Embarassed, maybe it's not meant to be answered, a welcome message from admin, perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Once again thanks for the welcome.

Hi Polly (love that name), old dogs and new tricks, it gets harder as they get older, not only for the trainer but for the dog also, at 3 it's not impossible but might take some time.
If you have a specific problem I may be able to help so just ask.

Cockers are "people" dogs, they love us so they love to be carried about hence the jumping up.  An old (and wise) friend from Exeter always says you can tell a springer man from a cocker man by mud distribution, springer men are muddy from their boots to their waist and cocker men are muddy from their waist to their hat.

Polly Izzy seems a good dog to me.

Welcome to Homers dogman hope to see you on some of our meets.

Dogman our daughter has dog and bitch Sprockers which she has recently bred. Has a girl pup left which she would like us to have but by your description above think we will pass as we would be covered in mud from head to toe Laughing

Sprockers are often deliberately bred by gamekeepers as they often have the best traits of both breeds, the drive of the springer and the irresistible personality of the cocker, both dogs are very "busy", love to be doing something, needs exercise so if you like long walks this is a good breed.  Go for it, a lovely cross with loads of character.

Forgot to say we have two cats that adopted us some years ago. They came to us very frightened and made us think they had been mistreated.  However although we were not cat lovers these two have stolen our hearts.
Previously we had alsation dogs but the last one died of a tumour just before the cats came.  So we are a bit aprehensive about having a Sprocker dog just now.  However daughter says she will breed the dogs sometime in the future so perhaps we will take one of that litters pups.  Exercise isn't a problem as we have fields to take the dogs round and play ball.
