Well my completed D2 and D4 forms went into the post on Thursday evening so lets see how long it takes for the DVLA to process them, I really hope mine are quicker than Bob's were.

Just as an aside our local health centre, which I never have any praise for, charged me a whacking £135 for the ten minutes it took the doctor to fill out the D4 form

I had a change of vehicle at the beginning of April, took a whopping 9 weeks for the new logbook to arrive when it states that it takes up to 4 weeks,& I had to resend another v5 application to them because they had no record of change of ownership  Evil or Very Mad

Now going into four weeks since I sent the forms off to retain my C1 licence and it says ring them after 3 weeks. Did just that and recorded message says we are unable to accept your call as all 240 lines are engaged.

What a mess they must be in down at Swansea as it seems is everything else that previous and subsequent governments have ever stuck their sticky fingers in

Try and call just before the medical section close at 17.00hrs as if it is that bit that is delaying things you will not get an answer, 16.30 is good time to start I always got a response at this time and I know what you are going through.

Well after valuable information from Bob I finally got through to the driving licence division at 4.35,my application is going through. It has been passed to the medical section who are currently processing applications from early May so mine could easily be another four or five weeks. What an absolute shambles the DVLA has become since it was all transfered to Swansea.

I may question why after a full opticians report and £135 spend on a doctors medical it has to go through their medical section but hey ho it is a Government department and they all seem to be useless

Not knowing when you're C1 runs out and also when you will get the new one, have you the letter from the DVLA stating you can carry on driving in the UK until otherwise informed ? Saves a whole lot of hassle if you have one (I got one) if you are stopped for something by the local bobbies (but then they probably all drink in your daughters pub so no problem)  Wink

Got the letter thanks Bob, so really no problem as we will not be crossing the channel until mid. August but that is no excuse for the DVLA's gross inefficiency and we do need to warn anyone else approaching their 70th birthday to bear in mind the long protracted procedure
