Thanks for all the info, we're having a rethink about holland, we may just go into France & end up in Amsterdam for the last 2 nights... There doesn't seem to be hardly any sites open. And other forum people have reported holland is dire and m/home unfriendly in the closed season. We can't seem to find any towns etc worth a look.

The only problem we've had that we got broke into in Amsterdam parked out side a cafe on the main road into Amsterdam that was about 3 years ago but other than that never had any problem where we have parked, in August we park in a shopping centre car park on the outskirts of Haarlem had no problem from anybody.

In Amsterdam we will be stopping on the camp site, we don't mind aires but don't want to spend a full week in them,  but the majority of sites close down in september.
we we're really looking forward to holland, but needed sites close to villages towns etc,not in the middle of nowhere, which is all that appears to be open.
We may poodle into Germany, and then back to amsterdam,
OR just go down to the Alsace in France.

Rubbish. Lovely people and a pretty much dead flat piece of Europe. Except for Valkenberg. This has a hill  with a campsite sat on it. In the summer it's great to sit in the tourist trap seats eating and drinking in the sunshine.

You need to see the E22 Afsluikdjyk to see how inventive the Dutch are in keeping the sea at bay.

Amsterdam is a great city to explore.

But October, can't you wait ?

we fancied a look around Holland and booked the amsterdam to newcastle ferry (as it was a decent price) whilst still on holiday this summer. we never thought most of holland's campsites would close in september.
Luckily we booked dover- calais to go outward,,,, so down to the Alsace it is,,probably and then back to amsterdam for the last 2 nights.

Not as good I think at keeping the sea at bay as these roads and bridges, I spent years travelling around this area and the engineering on the road system is simply great.
