Elec hook Up Cable Empty
PostSubject: Elec hook Up Cable   Elec hook Up Cable EmptyTue 25 Nov 2014 - 18:35

Hia

I have a very long hook up cable that I use at home and I leave it at home.
I have a 10mt that I take with me when using hook up and a couple of times I have been to short
So wondering about getting a 15mt
To connect to my 10mt
Is this allowed on sites and do you have to do anything to where they connect together eg to protect from rain, or when it runs on the grass?
Thanks

Oh just thought they do connect together don't they?

Most sites dont like joining cables together Polly & if you do you should have a hazard warning where the join is. They are water tight to a high (IP rating) but I would carry a 25mt cable all the time & a shorter one & use them separately.

16 amp plug and sockets are IP44 rated which is only splashproof not a high rating at all. You can get a purpose made cover for the plug and socket connection. Many people just use a bin liner but whatever do not leave it where it maight be driven over.

Its not always possible Mark, on one site in Portugal we had to join 2 x 25mt lengths to get the hook up but we do use a purpose made cover if needed.

It is never good practice to have connectors in the cable because if they become disconnected (kids messing around etc..)then one half is live and lying in the grass. Also, a 50 metre cable is very long and you will experience some voltage drop.Because of the reduced voltage your devices will take less current and produce lower output so your electric heater won't be so effective for example.

Lying in the grass protected by an RCD = no danger.
The waterproof cover is also lockable

But the point is English sites are more stringent on rules & regulations about joining cables together than some european countries as Pollys question asks looking at the question polly uses a 10m cable for sites, I suggested using a 25m & a 10m seperatly.
