Flat Screen TV wall mount or Stand

Hi,

We are trying to decide whether to wall mount our 47inch flat screen TV above the mantle-piece or leave it in the corner on a standard height glass purpose made table.

Our concern is whether it will be too high, its a normal height modern'ish fire place, nothing grand, and the room is 20ft long 12 feet wide and the fire place is in the middle of one of the 20ft side walls.

Anyone have a similar situation or suggestions would be helpful before I commit to drilling holes in the wall ?

Hi Brian, it is horses for courses I think, we had our FS over the fireplace for a while but soon moved it back to the "normal" place after getting stiff necks, our problem was that the room was to narrow to get the right angle for viewing.

hi brian being builder and some one that re models house for poeople .if you wont to sell your house put it on the wall above your fire will look good .if you are going to live there for some time, leave it where it is or wall mount it so when you are siteing comfe your eye are in center of screen. some pos 31....36 inches.then all your cables i all sky 2.hdmi .power scart airial then pos cat cable plus any think else you think you wont. i all put in wall as caping looks crap. you will end up with a bad neck if put above fire heat can afect plasma tv

Hi Thanks for the info and the link, we have decided to leave it where it is as it is perfectly OK its just that you often see them above the fire place and we just thought it may of being a good idea but from your experience and suggestions we will leave it on the corner stand

Personal preference I think, I don't like them on the fireplace, they are too high for my liking, plus I don't think it will do the tv any good if its over a working fire, all that heat rising can't do it any good
