First topic message reminder :

Does anyone on here have 15" tyres on their van?
Are you plated at 3200 or 3500?

Just had a play about with figures in the calculator, and to get to 70 psi on the front, assuming they are 109 rated, the front axle would need to be at 1800kg

I didn't find Continental very informative, unlike Michelin and Pirelli who were both VERY helpful

Bob, heres part of the email from Michelin

Quote :
Dear Mr Hacking

Thank you for your enquiry about tyres for your motorhome.

The Michelin Agilis Camping tyre is designed especially for motorhomes and would be the preferred fitment as it has the capacity to take the higher pressure of 80psi.

This is due to the construction of the tyre with 2 casing plies enabling the use of higher pressures. Its construction and the use of higher pressures is designed to cope with continual heavy loads sometimes found on Motorhomes and can help with wear pattern issues if lower pressures are used particularly on the rear axle.

I knew that, it says 80 psi on the tyre wall but you would only put 80 psi in if you were close to it's max payload.

Reply from Continental

Hello Steve
based on the 215/70 R15CP 109R ContiVancoCamper and your axle weights the
inflation pressures are:

Front: 4.25 Bar
Rear: 5.5 bar

The 69 psi on the tyre is a marking for the North American market but in
some circumstances the inflation pressure may be higher.

Ignore the pressures as that is not of concern

Now the final sentence does have me confused!!!!

It is the part in red that confuses me, I have re read my post and this should clarify which part worries me.
Continental tyres I have used on numerous vehicles and have had good wear and mileage from them cheers

Yes it confuses me too and I don't like ambiguity.
Mine are rated to 80 psi all over the world and I've not had a problem of any kind and great mileage. Yes they're a few quid more but to just say they're rubbish is nonsense.

Steve, I don't know much about tyres and pressures but Northern America - isn't that Alaska et al? Perhaps the altitude has something to do with why they are rated at 69 psi Embarassed

I can see that happening a lot in a few years time, people just won't have the right license to drive them and will want vans 3500 and under, not everyone will want to go through another driving test

Well we can go to 3850 if we get Airride wich we have so all can be done. We can go higher on rear if we fit new tyres but does it justify the cost?

Better weighing the axles before you pay Steve, just to make sure you are Ok with the axle weights you have now.
I could go to 2000kg with air ride fitted but I'd never get tyres for that without a lot of hassle so I just kept mine at 1900
