Hia

Right thought I would ask this question to get you all out of hiding jocolor jocolor

Ok on my old kindle I could put books in a collection and that is where I would find them

But

I have created a collection on this kindle ( the basic one) and named it books read

Now I have put a book in the collection but it still shows up on the home page as well as in the collection

I have deleted the book of the home page but then it is deleted from the collection

All I want is to move a book from the home page into a collection page

Am I asking the impossible confused confused

To sort your Home screen content by collection:
Move your cursor to the top of the Home screen to highlight "Showing All Items" and your current viewing option.
Move the 5-way controller to the right to reveal available viewing options.
Select "Collections" from the options.

Polly, I have an old Kindle with the keyboard and I have the same problem.  You have a choice of keeping it on the Kindle or deleting it.  If you delete it you can re-download it from your Archive in the Menu.  It is only the newer ones that you can sort them into 'collections'.

If you have books on your Kindle that have not come from Amazon, don't delete them as you will loose them forever.  I always back all my books in Calibre for this reason, in case I accidentally delete them.

Annoying isn't it?

Hia Polly, when you put a book into the kindle it goes into the "All Books" (most recent) list, then if you put it into one of your collections (which you obviously know how to do) the book shows up in the collection. The book is still in the "All Books " list because it is in the kindle.
If you sort your kindle by "collections" and go somewhere else in the kindle (like read a book) then press the "home" button you'll go to all your books sorted in collections, if you now sort your books by "Author" or "Title" you will see all your books whether they are in a collection or not and sorted in Author or Title (alphabetical) order. When you do a sort, your home page stays that way until you do different sort.
So, your books are always sorted, whether it be "most recent, title, author or collection".
So, you're not asking the impossible, just need to look at it differently !
.
As Cheryl says Calibre is brilliant, don't know how anyone can use a kindle without it !
.
Do you have a German/English dictionary on your kindle ? A very useful addition if you haven't ...

Long winded but hope it helps . Mad
