| Renewing 70+ and C1 licence together is a daunting procedure with pages and pages of forms D46P, D4 and D2 forms to fill in, good job I have a very friendly doctor, just waiting for them all to arrive then make appointment with Doctor for a good 30 minutes as some parts have to be filled in in the presence of the Doc.

| I have been plying my doctor with good vino for years and he usually doesn't charge me anything so I have yet to know what the charges are, on the notice board the charge is £120 for a HGV/C1 form, but I am not expecting to pay anything like that, (he like a wee vino) | |

| In Spain I had to ( by law ) changed my UK license to a Spanish one and because of that at the age of 55 onwards I have to by law renew my C1 (up to 7.5 ton) every year at the cost of 175 euro's ( medical - eye sight test - computer test and new plastic license ) - I have considered just binning it, but as someone says you never know when you will need it....... | |

Glad it all worked for you Barrie, I am concerned on how they can assess your medical condition without your records and visual condition without an Optometrist test or report.

| You don't need to go to your own Dr but do agree they should at least see your medical records, I think the limit on the test is just the standard "can you read a number plate from xx feet" and they can tell that by testing you on the wallchart. when the guy at work got charged £140 others told him about a retired Dr who does the tests from home and charges £60 _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Bob Colin has just renewed his HGV/PSV for another year.
Note on the first page of the medical form that you have to have had a eye test within so many months - think it is four. Colin had to have his eyes tested at the Opticians as well as his medical at the Drs.
Make sure the optician signs and dates the front page and also dates when you had the eye test. Although it was the same day Colin's form was sent back by DVLA, for the completion of the date of the eye test.
The Drs fee was around £80 and he had to pay for his eye test has he had one within in the two years allowed.
Colin also had to supply another photo as his ten years photo licence renewal date was due.

Barrie had to take all his medication with him, had a simple eye test and his blood pressure checked and answered lots of questions. All things that were needed for the Doctor to complete the form.

| Still waiting for the forms D4 and D2 from DVLA ordered on the 5th March, so rang them today and told them I have reordered from the web, then I am informed that I do not fill in the D46P form if I am filling in the D4/D2 forms, where does it say that i ask, on the information leaflet sent with D46P, horlicks I told her I have read every word and nowhere does it say that, well it should do these bureaucrats are messing with people and misinforming them and I have only 10 weeks before going to France and they say I should apply 13 weeks before to be certain of getting my licence back. God I am Peed off with these people, good job I do not live near Swansea. | |

Allen when is your due, I think I will end up with a duplicate set of forms so when your home send me your address and I will send you the full pack, its called the D2 pack and includes the forms D4 medical and D2 Lorry and Bus. According to the DVLA you do not have to fill in the 70+ pack they send you if you require the D4/D2 forms. It's a ruddy nightmare.

| Bob don't hold your breath about getting your licence back before going to France. Colin's was to be renewed 31st January and he still hasn't got it back He rang Swansea last week to find out where it was because re the DVLA Swansea paperwork 'if you haven't received your licence after 3 weeks contact us' When Colin rang them he was told his medical form was in a queue waiting for the Medical department to pass it. DVLA couldn't give a time frame when we could expect Colins HGV/PSV driving licence return. He then asked if he should be driving DVLA said it was up to him To think the government want us to work into our 70s eventually. Government departments really need to get thier act together. | |

| I am fuming Joyce, they say you need 3 months to be on the safe side and I have been waiting 3 weeks for the ruddy forms, three times on the phone yesterday pressing buttons, could not get to talk to a real person until 16.30.
Told her I have had no forms she said it can take 12 days as they are posted 2nd class, just spoke to our friendly postman and he said "dangly bits" 2nd class is no longer than 3 days, they are just passing the buck all the time.
I mentioned to her should I fill in the D46P form if I am filling in a D4/D2 forms and she told me to read the information leaflet enclosed in the D46P, I have read every ruddy word and nowhere does it state them facts I told her, "well it should do" was her reply, flabbergasted I hung up.

| Colin filled in the application for the licence and also renewed his photograph. We also enclosed his medical form duly completed and also his licence card not the paper licence as they don't require it.
We always keep a copy of all the documents we send to DVLA especially the driving licence. Needless to say we send the application by recorded delivery.
Didn't the main Post Offices keep a stock of HGV/PSV driving licence application and medical forms - wonder if they still do.

| Yes Joyce I also keep a copy of all my documents but as I have reached the terrible age of 70+ so I need to renew my photograph as well as the C1 part, as for the Post Office our main post office has closed and been rehoused in a W.H.Smith shop and they do not keep a stock of the required documents. As for the photo copies of your licence it still shows the expiry date of the licence not sure of the paper one as thats in the m/h in storage but I will check it tomorrow. | |

| Bob received a letter from DVLA today - without Colins driving licence. Instead it contained a letter saying he could still drive the groups he is entitled to while DVLA complete their enquiries into his medical Colin had is medical at his Drs and everthing was ok. Even his eyesight is ok according to the optician. Jobs for the boys comes to mind. However I have tried to ring DVLA to find out what the problem is and they are too busy to take my call and hang up, | |

| Joyce I have had uproar with the DVLA today, 15 days and no forms and no apology from them just we will send some more, "get lost" i have ordered 2 sets now and none have arrived.
I eventually got the answer to the D46P form "NO" you do not fill that in if you are filling in the D4/D2 forms so that's got one problem sorted, can I drive if I have not had my licence back when original runs out I ask, "yes" as long as there is 'NO" medical condition that would stop you driving our alter your entitlements.
Thats fine in the UK ( as it can be accessed by the police easily too verify details) but I will be France on the 1st June and possibly without a driving Licence I can produce, cannot help in that situation I was told, what a crap service.
I fully recommend anyone starting this procedure to use the full 3 month entitlement to get your licence back when you require it.

So your the reason I can't get through to DVLA Bob. Wanting to ask them why the delay when is medical etc was fine. Infact the best one ever as far as his blood pressure concerned. What is more annoying if Colin was an employee without his licence returned I have to ring the same DVLA number to get confirmation he is able to drive during this period, because of our industry standard. Oh and still no driving licence two months after applying.

It is worrying Joyce that Colin has not yet received his back from January

| Can this saga get any worse Oh yes it can. After two months of submitting Colins HGV/PSV application we have had a letter from DVLA this morning. Section 5 of the Opticians report hasn't been filled in. What is question 5 - If correction is worn for driving is it well tolerated. YES/NO Colin wears glasses for reading. The Optician says he doesn't need them for driving. Don't know how they will answer that one but it means another trip to Darlington to the opticians. Please don't delete my posts because I am going to write a best selling book about our experiences renewing HGV/PSV driving licence at three score years and ten | |

| It is a ruddy great shame Joyce, I couldn't get an appointment at my doctors until middle of next week so I bit the bullet and got an appointment today with one of the phone doctors that travel the country giving medicals out on the verbal answers you are asked, it was in Chester and he saw 5 people in 60 mins. Have you ever had ----No Have you got any -----No do you smoke----------No do you drink alcohol---No Blood pressure fine Heart still pumping eyes fine (had full opticians test week before) No problem here he tells me, should have your licence back within 4 weeks 12 minutes, thanks doctor here is £56 for your precise and exacting medical for me to drive a vehicle up to 7500kg, Now all documents sent off recorded delivery so they will have them on Monday morning, and I will be on the phone 28th April if I have not got my licence back. I have every faith in the wonderful service of the hard working understaffed people at the DVLA | |

| Very true Debbie, I would have really liked my own doctor to do the medical but needs must when the DVLA muck you about, but in all honesty how can a doctor that has no access to your medical records pronounce you fit to drive a 42 tonne artic with only your word the info you have given is true.
