renewing 70+ and C1 licence

First topic message reminder :

Renewing 70+ and C1 licence together is a daunting procedure with pages and pages of forms D46P, D4 and D2 forms to fill in, good job I have a very friendly doctor, just waiting for them all to arrive then make appointment with Doctor for a good 30 minutes as some parts have to be filled in in the presence of the Doc.

Dear God what a mess - Why could they not tell you this in the first place. Have a good break you will need it..........

Good news at this end David posted his renewal last Tuesday back today I call that Quick work

thats great news Pauline, but was it for a C1/D1 licence as that is a different ball game.

The one where you need medical and eye test and loads of forms to fill in nightmare !!!!

Bob if you are retaining HGV element of your licence it has to be renewed annually when you reach 70. At least Colin has to renew his annually. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Just sitting here waiting for the postie to arrive and hoping it will arrive today, Joyce I gave my HGV1 up at 65 yrs so no I am only applying for the C1/D1 entitlement for up to 7500kg and that is every 3 years.

Sorry Bob thought you had retained all entitlements.  Colin has retained HGV1 and PSV.
Have a member of staff doing his 35hr drivers cpc this week. Apparently we are the only member of EU that actually carries out the courses.  

Yes I know Joyce, I think Ken did one recently and my son in law has done one as well, the EU stinks as its one rule for them and different ones for the UK.

I agree Bob. Just hope the politicians got the message last week.

Bob pleased to hear your news. Told you your driving licence would arrive In time -  but  that was too close. 

Cheers everyone, the procedure took 10 weeks 3 days from start to finish and as it happens I could have just delayed my starting date until it arrived, but what about the people who make a living with the use of this kind of licence, it could financially ruin someone, it has got to be a better service than this,

DVLA take a month to issue the log book and tax disc on a new vehicle. Apparently the owner of the vehicle is allowed to drive it during this wait   ........  and this is called progress.

So pleased to hear your news Bob we are pitched up now near Honfleur waiting for granddaughter. Cloudy but warm see you next week.

Now what was all the panic about  

about 1 day or it was waiting until it arrived, and anyway I wasn't panicking    just anxious in case I had to postpone my departure. I honestly cannot figure out why it has taken ten weeks for start to finish when all the paperwork was correct and they had full medical and vision documents at hand.

Just out of interest here in Spain I have to do renewal every year at the age of 55 on for C1. I go to local medical centre, which is in the same building as the licence office. 20 minutes later I take the eye test and a silly computer test on reaction time hand over my licence to the lady, she completes the required paperwork. Pay my fee and new licence arrives 7/10 days later.

My point is if they can do that in Spain surely the UK can get it right......... or is that just wishful thinking!!!!

Civil Servants John, just doing enough to stay in work until they get their stone clad pension

John if only we could do things the sensible and efficient way over here. They talk of red tape in France but believe me we have just as much over here and most of it fails before the finale

Off hand I cannot think of a single thing that our governments have stuck their fingers in that works as it should

Resurrected this post because it's such an interesting read (thanks Bob) and to let people know that at last DVLA seem to have got their act together.
I went for my medical on 17th March and today 6th April have received my new license, all correct and free of charge (apart from the £59 paid for the medical).
So congratulations to DVLA for such a wonderful speedy service ....



I await the incoming flack .

Have you got that motorhome fixed so you can make use of your shiney new licence?
