iBoost wifif directional or omni directional

Going to get a iBoost wifi system and just wondered if anyone here has used one and which one did you go for?

Omni directional which I understand is easier to set up (no faffing about trying to locate a signal but more expensive and less range but I do like the idea of being able to roof mount it)
Directional - Cheaper but requires 'focusing'

Plus, is it worth getting one without also getting a fon? (we are not BT customers)

I would have got the omni directional one but they weren't available when i got mine.
If your not a BT customer you will need a fon box at home, to connect to the BT hotspots and fon hotspots you have to be a member of one of them and share your network at home

Thanks Ken, does that mean you are not 100% happy with the directional one?
As I was writing the post I thought the directional one was a no brainier, cheaper, better range.

No, im happy with it, didnt realise it had a better range though, thought it would be easier to set up rather than keep having to turn it and scanning to find the hotspots.
I dont use mine a lot now anyway, get a good signal on 3 network at most places, unlimited data plan and its fast, i tend to tether to that now

Started the ball rolling and ordered a fon
Seen this on the motorhomewifi web site

Had it now for 2 years, very pleased with it and to date locked into wifi link 3km away no problem. Once you get used to it setting up takes as long as it takes you to site the ant.

Just placed my order for the same one just placed my order for the same one. The 4g option was another £300 with an antenna abit OTT.

Hi sharon we live in france and have been using the fon just over 2 years....yes there are lots of FON in France we very rare have use our sim/mifi/dongle but do have one as a back up and when we do private business...if you are out in the wild with nothing around you well????? don't expect a fon signal...I am in the uk on holiday and my FON box in france is on... and I know somebody is using it at this very moment ..like I am using a Bt/Fon in the Uk replying to you...

Fon arrived today and all seems to be working, able to login to someone down the roads BT Wifi with Fon hotspot   
£190 just to get wifi must be mad

WELL....   you may be mad (only joking) but I am not neither is John (D/Q).....i paid 35 euros for my fon box.....for this I get the code/password to access all the FON network..Bt in the uk..Sfr in france where we live...and many other countries.....mine has paid me back in the free network I have used in the uk and France....but as an added bonus for myself and john....we are getting paid for any none members that use my fon box in France....because none members have to pay.. but they still can use the fon network......so if a none member uses mine...lovely...I get half 50/50 of what fon charges less the vat...in the 6 weeks we have been over in the UK we have received over 80 euros.fon put straight into my bank..lovely...and there is somebody using mine at this very moment...lovely....and are due for another daily pass.... brill signals...but you do need a good booster...
