This morning on radio 4, 0700hrs, the programme was about the "Search and Rescue" service, in the light of the phasing out of the "Sea King" helicopter, this year. A fascinating insight into the work of the service, and the pilots love of this old workhorse. The service is also transferring into civilian control, which in my very humble opinion is not a good thing. I suspect that most of the pilots will be ex forces pilots who are trained to an incredibly high standard, but one alarming fact that came out, was the government training standard was set at 1hr per month, but in the military, training is set a lot higher. Thankfully I have never had to use the service myself, has anybody on our forum had to? Be interesting to hear.
