Car Lights Why Empty

Hi,

I have just driven home without any outside lights on the car, why do these designers make cars like this.

Its a 1 year old Fiesta, and when you unlock it the outside side lights and inside dash and instrument lights come on together with the curtosy light, when you put the key in the ignition and turn on the curtosy light goes out and I suppose so do the outside side lights, BUT the inside dash and instrument lights stay on and that's where the problem is, to all intense and purpose from the inside you could believe that you have your lights on, but you only notice that if you are in a dark area if you are in town there its very hard to tell as you can't see and head light trace.

Why do they make it like it, why can't they just be like normal.

There to technical now, I have a tapping tappet and found out today it is a hydraulic tappet system and will cost at least £450/500 to fix it so sod the tapping until it gets unbearable, in the old days I would have reset them myself but it is now impossible to do anything on the modern car, too much technology for us oldies.
