Recommendations in Spain (Santander/Bilbao)

We are hoping to cross over from Portsmouth to Santander/Bilbao in June and was wondering if anyone had any great site & 'must do' recommendations? We have approx 10/12 days and are ideally looking for some nice sites for plenty of R&R in the sun. Not too much travelling. All suggestions greatly fully accepted.

Yes Jo n Wurly, get of the ferry and turn right for the northern coast of Spain, beautiful scenery and loads of sites and wild camping also the Picos mountains.

Places worth a visit (all with aires) : Santillana del Mar , Comillas, Cangas de Onis - close to Covadonga and Picos de Europa. A memorable campsite is La Paz a few miles west of Llanes, its a bit tight for bigger vans but next to a stunning beach. Theres lots of wild camping along the coast though at small beach carparks . Have a look on Google earth.

Right on Steve n Kim, just too add San Vicente de le Barquera for a stop, really nice town and lovely site on the beach 1mile from town with lovely bike ride.

Just arrived in Santander... Weather not looking good for a northern Spain for the next few days so think we are going to head south.  Have heard Calp is nice?  Any recommendations/donations gratefully accepted.

Hi you lovely peeps, nice to hear your still alive and kicking and we miss you both, here is the link to Odessa camping Denia and Calpe both of which you should enjoy but we favour Calpe as its a real good stopover.

go to benidorm.camping el raco.pitches near the reception ok.pitches further down with water and drains same price.bar opposite the site 1 euro for estrelle dam lager per pint.
go to the benidorm palace 700yds away.best night, you will enjoy every minute of it.
and a day on the juice -seafront beach bar wakiki beach,live music all day and top bands.a bottle of smirnoff and 6 red bull 24 euros.wish we were there with you.enjoy it.

ps.go to the china garden for a meal.hot sour soup the best i have had.

Jo N Wurly, its a 500+ mile drive from from Santander to Calpe so the above stopover is a safe one and not to far off route, we have stayed there before and also wints stayed there recently and said it was a brilliant night stopover.

I believe Frank stays at another site on the same route south but being my size I cannot go there.

we over nighted at teruel wild camped on supper hippo super store just be hind filling station which had lpg there is all vans there we where told

Well.... We arrived safe and well last night - just in time to sink a few scoops before we collapsed in bed!!  Left Santander at 0830hrs and with two pit stops coupled with two wrong turns with the Sat Nav (more to do with my Sat Nav reading) and we got here (on an alternative route to the one you sent - thanks Bob) just after 1900hrs.  We are staying at Camping Raco as per Franks recommendations (thanks Frank) and cannot fault it.  Weather is superb and very different to the stormy weather we experienced in Santander.  We are going to stay here for a week or so and then maybe take a leisurely route back up North.  The Weather in the North appears to be improving next week.  Watch this space...
