€ exchange rate with Nationwide

Just be checking our Nationwide a/c for purchases made on our credit card for purchases during our last trip and was very pleasantly surprised with the exchange rate, 95% were @ €1,21 -£1, 3% were €1.215 -£ and 2% were €1.22 -£ and no fees so we are very happy with that.

We will certainly be sticking to this card for the foreseeable.   

Agree there Bob, great rates well worth using credit card in europe just have to make sure the card issuer does not charge for using it in europe

nationwide have not charged us so well happy.

We use post office credit card & have been very pleased with the rates.

Now that's interesting, Bob, I used my NationWide DEBIT card for fuel when abroad and was charged  a non UK commission fee.
eg on 22nd Feb spent 85.15 euro at 1.212 to the £ and was charged £1.40 commission.
Looks like I need a credit card cause every little helps !

I'm spending on my flex account, and I'm sure I'll be charged commission on each spend.

Have you used it at an unmanned fuel station in France/Spain ?

No we have not used the Nationwide one but have used our Natwest one and that worked ok, but we always ask for the sale in €s not £s as the conversion rate is crap.

Not seen one of them !  

No catches at all with our card Joice,we've used it for 2 years now, also no problem at non manned pumps either although the nationwide card looks equally good.

Thanks Mark, just looked at the rate for the PO cc card and it's 1.203, which is bank rate. Just shows you have to keep alert and be prepared to change when new products come onto the market - or suffer the consequences.

Barb has just informed me we have used the nationwide card in non manned fuel stations in France hope that helps, and like Mark said the exchange rates are the bank rates not the tourist rates on the day of use so can fluctuate slightly.

The Auchan in Calais is a prime example of paying in €s or £s but you lose out big style if you pay in £s

Years ago when we first started going to France, you couldn't use credit cards anywhere and the French only had cheque books... good that they're getting their act together !

Good job Barb still has a memory - unlike the rest of us !!  

& of course you do save €s at these pumps especially when your sticking well over 100 litres in every time

Paperwork to be signed came today - no mention of 0.5% cashback or no commission on non UK purchases ... so I phoned them (0800 number) half an hour later after much discussion with me and in their office the boss man came on the phone and said I could have both ... so good result
