| Logged into my gas/Electric account the other day to find I am £700 in credit, well thats being transferred into my bank account, can't see the point in keeping it in theirs They'd soon be in touch if I owed them anything, pity they couldn't tell me I was paying too much though _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Was acually about £760 but I'll leave the £60 in for now as we are approaching the dearer months, but just done a switch as well to another supplier so the £60 might be coming back as well _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

I thought the company's could not keep more than £100 Really? never heard of that Had to laugh at this bit "As you have a credit balance on your account, it has indicated that you may be potentially overpaying on your monthly direct debit payments. If you would like us to review your monthly payments and advise on the status of your account, please feel free to contact me." REALLY Nah, I'll let the new energy company contact you _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Found this Polly
How to get a refund on your energy bills Under Condition 27 of the Gas and Electricity Supply Licence Conditions, gas and electricity firms are required to refund you a credit balance automatically or on request.
Most companies would reduce your direct debit when reviewing your account to iron out a significant credit balance, but some also have policies for giving automatic refunds (see table below). While it used to be that the amount at which you could get an automatic refund would differ widely between supplier (from £5 with Eon to £150 with EDF Energy), in February 2014 this changed.
Now five of the big six energy suppliers have agreed to refund any credit balance over £5 at the yearly account review: British Gas, Eon, EDF Energy, Npower and SSE. Most will ask for an up-to-date meter reading to process the refund.
Scottish Power is the only big six supplier not to have agreed to this - it will only automatically refund customers who've built up more than £100 or one month's worth of credit in their account. However, Scottish Power reviews customers' direct debit arrangements four times a year, which should help ensure you're paying roughly the right amount in the first place.
You also have a right to a full refund on a credit balance at any time if you ask for it and provide a meter reading. The firm can try to convince you to leave the credit on your bill. This may be wise if, for example, it’s summer and you should be building up credit for winter. Whatever happens, get a full explanation as to why it advises against a refund. _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Good information - thanks. We're with Scottish Power, so that probably explains why we never get a rebate, they just keep altering the monthly direct debit and we don't notice ... will keep an eye on the payments now ! | |

| We had a large credit with British Gas about this time of year and we requested that it be returned to us. Then the buggers put our monthly payment up by 60% because we were approaching the winter months when they thought we would use more gas. We refused to increase our monthly payments and thanks to our log burner, didn't use anywhere near British Gas' estimate of use. | |
