A disappointing result for intended route to Spain

First topic message reminder :

Hi, Baza, Pete and Mark, after researching my proposed route over the Col de Portalet I have had some information from seasoned expert travellers about the route and the time of year we would be going.

The Col is ussually closed from October to May so early April looks like it could be still impassable, I was intending getting the information for the route from a campsite we have frequently used at Saint Yrieix-sur-Charente as from there I could change the route easily to avoid the area, and suggest the route through the Somport tunnel, it's a very pretty route we have used before and actually brings us out on the route we would have originally taken.

So here is what I suggest, still stick with the original route until Saint Yrieix then make enquiries about the road condition and if its closed I will have a backup route ready, or how about you putting forward a route you would like to take and we could go that way, I do want to avoid toll roads as much as possible and I will not be using the Millau bridge, don't mind going down under it but refuse to pay €35 to go across.

So your comments please.

Just been speaking to friends staying at la manga they are hoping to join us at crevillente on or around the 8th, they have been getting some nice weather over the last few days and today has been around 25

Just stick real close around Rouen Baza cus if you hit one of them underpasses they have you will have no Sat dishes left, might even make your m/h a cabriolet

just noticed you post rueon stick close when we returned or garmin took use to centre of rouen major road work bridge or some think bad Poo trafic jams took two hours to get out of there .fantastic place could not find any where to park

This is the underpass I nearly went down last year en-route to Denia last year, (the roadworks are finished obviously) just managed to realise at the last second

A very popular place and yes still there although the entrance was closed for a couple of months for bridge renovations, a ten minute walk to the Cathedral and city centre but no facilities.

Far as I know Wints is still coming.

i wounder if thats the bridge that was problens to our satnav

Do not think so as they where repairing the underneath of a bridge alongside the river well off the main routes

we will try looking for it if we ever go back that way one day

That bridge was still closed in late Feb when we came through Rouen.
Stayed at Pont de l'arche, about 5miles from Rouen, very nice aire with all facilities.
It was also on the route we took through Rouen, so no detour necessary.

Is this intended part of my route affected by the Pon't de Matilda as we are not crossing it.

I'm keeping a close watch on this thread, and all being well, yes we'll be there April 8th.

I think travelling south through Rouen is pretty straightforward...free A28 from Abbeville then just follow the Evreux / Dreux / Chartres N154. Dead easy with satnav.
Prior to satnav several times I ended up going around the cathedral, much to the amusement of folk sat outside the many cafes in that built up area.

Anyway, temps down today, only 23 deg with a bit of a breeze. That shifted the sun worshippers off Levante beach! We've found a cafe that does really good coffee & Brandy & cake for 1 eu 20 cents.

I have no worry's with transiting Rouen I just wanted too know if the diversion for the Pont Mathilde affected my route and if it did I know a different route I could take, as it appears it doesn't affect our route so happy days.

A disappointing start to Good Friday here in Benidorm. 9 am, after our brisk walk down to Levante beach and back, it was only 17 deg, and cloudy. This was followed by 10 mins of warmish rain. By 12 noon the clouds were beginning to retreat back north, 2 pm normal service resumed....26 deg!!!
It's now 4 pm and the temp has dropped to 22 deg, a bit more cloud about as well. The bar (in the van) is open soon.

Just a blip, I would imagine you've had fairly consistent weather the last couple of weeks down there??

Anything in double figures is a bonus to what we have had for as long as I can remember

10 is double figures but I need it a lot hotter than that

20 deg at 8 am, it peaked at 29 deg early afternoon, now it's 24 with a bit of cloud. It's been a bit breezy all day.

Sure am Mark, staying at the Drum Inn J11 M20 5 mins from the tunnel as we don't fancy struggling around the M11, M25, M20 on Easter Monday.

Meeting Baza on Tuesday around noon at the Stop24 J11 and we may be able to get an earlier train but officially we leave at 14.00 so we will be in France at 15.45 then around too the Auchan for fuel and necessities and Franco's vin rouge then of too Wissant Aire for the night.

Will you and Pete be meeting us there ? if so I imagine it will be around 18.00 by the time you get down that way, so could have already started

Don't forget that if you use a card for fuel or purchases and you are asked if you want to pay in £s or €s DO NOT pay in £s as the exchange rate they give you is shocking.

Haven't spoke to pete yet, but I imagine we will meet you at the aire.

Not the right way to go about it. Get down to reception and report it. It's in the rules...'don't disturb your neighbours', and as for the abuse??
It's the sites responsibility to sort it, they need to have the info and log it, and then they can throw him off. If it's not reported he'll do it again and again.
